Throughout
its history, snooker has been dependant on the skill, expertise
and personality of the players for its success.
This has been so from the early days of the 1920's and 30's,
when Joe Davis's personality propelled snooker into a position
as the premier billiard table game, through to the 60's and
70's when Alex Higgins became the unofficial 'peoples champion.'
With the players and personalities of the 1980's and 90's,
snooker has found itself at the forefront of modern sport
in the United Kingdom. The game is now recognised as one of
the top two or three sports in the UK, both in terms of televised
audiences and nationwide participation.
This part of our web site pays tribute to the players of today
and yesteryear. Visit World
Champions for details on the winners since
1927 and Embassy
Champions for winners since 1976.
The links to the snooker Main
Tour and Challenge
Tour, provides
current information on today's players and schedules.
It is our intention to develop a large information repository
relating to the famous players who have made the game what
it is today. Great players like the Davis brothers, Walter
Donaldson, John Pullman, Ray Reardon, John Spencer, Alex Higgins,
Steve Davis, Jimmy White - the list goes on and on.
All
deserve their place in snooker history, which will be reflected
in the pages of this web site.
